What are DHA and EPA?
DHA and EPa are omega 3 essential fatty acids that play important roles in the development of our bodies. Centrum Specialist® Prenatal provides approximately 40mg of EPA and 200mg of DHA. This is a ratio of approximately 1:5mg EPA. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) suggests women take 200 to 300mg of DHA per day during pregnancy and breastfeeding. While there is currently no recommended daily allowance of EPA, the International Society for the Study of Fatty Acids and Lipids (ISSFAL) advises that supplemental levels of EPA do not exceed DHA.
